radiomaniathey do say "any publicity is good publicity"......well, from what i am hearing , most of the town and district is talking in some way or another about Chaine Eff Em!
love it or loathe it, at least it's creating comment.....what it means, in a nutshell, is that people are LISTENING! the amount of feedback i'm getting is phenomonal this year, mostly positive it must be said, and the response by text during my shows has surpassed expectations! all in all, it seems that doing the broadcast again this year has been well worth the sustained effort of everyone. THANKS FOR LISTENING LARNE !!!!!!!! 5 down 19 to goBeen another tiring day.
Up at 7ish - dealt with some emails and planned some guests for the station..after planning some music for the Harbour Community Group switch on headed up to the studio... Got to the studio for about 12 where I enjoyed Peter's company as ever - Peter is no radio act - his on air persona is really him....sorted out Saturday's 11pm - 1 am slot which is me doing Larne's Saturday Night Anthems... After another entertaining handover with Peter was on air 2 - 6 PM including a great interview with Alan O'Shea and Martin Wilson about the situation facing St Comgalls High School. Never have I experienced a reaction like it - flooded by texts and emails.... After handing over to Emo with Liz Stevo Haslett and I headed down to provide some music for the Christmas Tree switch on at the harbour - pleasant enough evening but bl@@dy cold. After calling back to the studio I needed to call with an advertiser (conveniently enough a bar) before home... All in a day's Chaine FM'ing. Is it worth it? Yeah - definitely - the Larne public like what we are doing so that makes it ok apart from the guy who called me age-ist for calling Esther Rantzen ancient (she is....but the fact she is still worth talking about is a tribute to her) Though I have to admit 24 December will be filled with mixed emotions - mix of freedom of having my life back and missing something that has been such a part of me for so long...a glass of wine anyhow! one oh six point three eff emm....1 more week......the work goes on.......johnny and stephen are in meltdown.....gary has started babbling......murray is legless.....
nearly there guys.......more power to our drinking elbows!! More madness and get in touchIt's been utterly mad trying to get the station on-air....some very long days being put in.
Though things are gradually coming together - the new on-air imaging is ordered (should sound great), the flyers, posters and banners ready soon and I'm gradually meeting with the presenters to agree on the sound of each show. Putting some work into the music too - really want the station to sound hot. We are still booking guests so if you are involved with something interesting do let us know and we'll have you in for a chat....oh and yeah start texting us on our text line number - your input is our output. 07541 605850 FM = Finding Mp3s or Frantic Murray or Flatout Madnesswith 2 weeks to broadcast, things are getting there......just.
my cd colection is being plundered and my MP3 player is on charge at least twice a day. work at the studio carries on apace and my lugs are sore mixing and messing with the ads. starting to get excited now about my first morning show.....well, as excited as an ancient hippy gets. again, members, we still need some help in the studio with getting into shape and organised in time for the 1st..... get your donkeys up there and pitch in...(i meant asses). URGENT PLEA.......can anyone lend a copy of Daniel O'Donnell Sings the Hits of Black Sabbath...i've lost my copy. se y'all soon Morning Murray the Music Maniac Time Flies....and butterflies too....18.....yep, 18 days to go to broadcast folks.
can't wait to get maz up at 6 in the morning to drive me to the studio for brekkie duties....hehe we all need some "desk time" before the off...so try, try, try to get up to the studio and get a bit of practice in. give gary a txt and he can arange times n dates. anyone who has a spare beer fridge lying around could chuck it up to the studio anytime...... Murray the Cornflake What a mad weekTaking a break from the ad sales, script writing, ad recording etc...of which I am still stupidly busy with...(Any volunteers to take over advertising welcome!)
Who could have missed the whole Russell Brand/Jonathan Ross Radio 2 crank call news story this week? It strikes me that the whole thing was a bit of a non-news story really. The pair were stupid, the broadcast unacceptable (not to mention unfunny) and those responsible deserved disciplined but the reaction????? There were only 2 complaints when the show was broadcast yet thanks to hype by the tabloid newspapers we suddenly forgot about the serious issues facing us...the severe economic problems faced by the global economy, the American Presidential election, war in various parts of the world etc didn't matter it just matters two grown men behaved like immature schoolboys... As Sir Terry Wogan said on his Breakfast Show on Friday morning "let's get back to a sense of proportionality". Every Chaine FM presenter is responsible for applying Ofcom standards on their show. We don't have the luxury of a producer on most shows, though each person on-air receives a full briefing on the regulations - it is my responsibility as the licensee to ensure this happens. It's also my job to keep a general watch on the output to ensure that we are complying with regulations and act if necessary. There is no excuse really for the sort of thing that went out on Russell Brand's show but at points this week it felt like we were living in a parallel universe where this actually mattered. Six weeks to go...by Gary Andrews...Chaine FM's On-Air Director
Six weeks today is 1 December and Chaine FM is due to return to Larne's airwaves....we have our license application in and it's all systems go. This time we are coming from the studios of our friends at Radio Moyle at the Moyle Hospital....thanks to the kind hospitality of the Northern Health Trust this is a much cheaper and much easier option....We have one studio due to the completed within days followed by work being completed on the second (main) studio... For me I've loads to do... Probably foremost in my mind at the moment is selling our advertising....basically we have made the station self-financing this time so we've got to get all our advertising and sponsorship sold...It's not going badly and many local businesses are keen to get onboard. I can't blame them...our product is very reasonably priced if I do say so myself...But it is a timebound thing both in terms of getting scripts signed off and then adverts made and approved so there really is no time to spare. (Any potential advertisers are advised to get in touch soon to reserve their ad space). The other big thing is the schedule..most of the schedule is now sorted bar a few final discussions with presenters...most of our guys are great and nobody is too hissy about where they are being put as we try to put them to the slot that suits their style best. We've also no great egos - Chaine FM isn't the sort of place for somebody who wants to be the next Chris Moyles...Though in his own story telling way we may have our own Terry Wogan in the form of Peter Henderson.... The final thing is raising our profile...I've just issued the first 2008 press release and oh started this new blog page which hopefully all the guys will add to over time..next up in the next week or two is contacting groups and individuals from Larne who might want to appear as guests on the shows... It's a great buzz putting something like this together and oh more than a bit stressful at times!!!!! Feel free to give me a shout via the contact page. |
