The Lowdown on Steven
Name?
Steven Reid (also known as Steky).
Age?
The big 3.0.
Favourite Music/Artist/Track?
I love all forms of music. I have got a really diverse taste, depending on were I’m playing I can play everything from 70's rock to techno. My main love is dance music, especially 'House Music'. My favourite track of all time though is 'Pink Floyd - Wish you were here.' (not any form of dance music in the slightest)
Favourite thing about Larne?
Have to say Larne FC, especially on a Saturday afternoon at 3pm (at a quarter to 5 though I am usually saying the opposite!!!!)
So what brought you to Chaine FM?
I have been djing since I was 13 years old and have been playing in various nightspots throughout Northern Ireland. I have always been interested in radio and have done a few mixes on Cool FM for Mark Wesley show when I was younger. When Gary mentioned to me there was going to be a radio station in Larne I jumped at the chance to get involved. I will enjoy the challenge of putting together my own show. Its will also be nice to give something back to my home town.
Who on the radio inspired you?
Loads of different DJ's, Pete Tong has always been my favourite radio DJ as he has always been at the forefront of dance music. I also quite liked Dave Pearce especially for his 'dance anthems' shows. Fergie's shows on Radio 1 also were good as it is great to hear a local lad doing so well. I also liked John Peel for his 'randomness' and used to love listening to Mark Goodier (yes correct!) when he did the golden years every morning.
Give us one embarrassing story about you?
A few years ago there was a famous DJ who had a bit hit in the charts was booked to play in a nightspot in Northern Ireland but canceled. At the last minute the promoter rang me up and asked me to go and pretend I was them as there would be a lot of unhappy people waiting to hear them. I went along to the nightclub to play a 2 hour set, the only problem was I had to pretend I was German! I was greeted at the door by owner of the nightclub and the only thing I kept saying was 'ya ya'!! (I never did German at school!!!). No one caught on and I played for 2 hours with people thinking I was this DJ, I even signed a few autographs!!!!!!
Whats your idea of a good night out?
My idea of a good night out definitely involves my girlfriend, food, a few drinks, my friends and most importantly a seat!!!!
Favourite drink?
I couldn't possibly say one. Beer, red wine, gin, tropical Lucozade sport. (usually in that order!! ha!)
Dream date?
My girlfriend of course!!!!
Favourite holiday destination?
I went to Italy earlier this year and its definitely one of the nicest place in the world.
In their own words:
Eat, drink, sleep!
